Santa Clara County Preference

Local preference may be given to applicants on the Santa Clara County Housing Authority (SCCHA) Interest List who live/work or have lived/worked in Santa Clara County within the last five years. The five years will be from the time the applicant is randomly selected from the Interest List.

In order to qualify for this preference, you will need to provide any one (1) piece of the following documentation:

Proof of Santa Clara County residency

(Document must show address of residence and be dated within the last five years of the date on your intake appointment with SCCHA)

  • Rental or lease agreement with the signature of the owner/landlord and the tenant
  • Home utility bill, mortgage bill, cellular phone bill
  • Bank or credit card statement
  • Medical document
  • Social Services document (CalWORKS, CalFresh, General Assistance, etc.)
  • California DMV vehicle registration
  • Change of Address Confirmation by the U.S. Postal Service
  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or California Franchise Tax Board tax return
  • Voter registration confirmation or postcard
  • A letter on letterhead from a homeless shelter, shelter for abused women, nonprofit entity, faith- based organization, employer, or government agency within the U.S. attesting that the applicant resides/resided in Santa Clara County

Proof of Santa Clara County employment

(Document must show address of employer or workplace and be dated within the last five years of the date on your intake appointment with SCCHA)

  • Paycheck or paystub
  • W2 tax document
  • Offer letter
  • Employment verification written, signed and dated by employer on company letterhead

If you are unable to provide one of these documents as evidence of living or working in Santa Clara County, please bring what you have and SCCHA will review on a case-by-case basis.
