The Housing Choice Voucher Program, formerly known as Section 8, provides peace of mind: steadier income and fewer vacancies.

Interested in becoming a Housing
Choice Voucher (Section 8) Landlord?

Here’s a general timeline so you can see what to expect.
Day 1
You submit a RFTA packet
(Request for Tenancy Approval)

To avoid delays, double check that the owner information matches what’s on file at the County Assessor’s Office. Confirm that your unit is move-in ready and will pass the HQS inspection- see details in the RFTA packet.

Day 4–9
Your unit gets inspected

A SCCHA contractor will reach out to you to conduct the HQS inspection (Housing Quality Standards).

Day 6–21
You sign the HAP contract
(Housing Assistance Payment)

SCCHA will send you the HAP Contract, which you can electronically sign and return to us with your lease agreement. Your Section 8 unit and payments are now in the system.

Payday!

You’ll receive payment as soon as the HAP Contract is processed. After that, expect payments on the first of the month. Sign up on the Owner Portal for direct deposit, tenant info, and tracking payments.
